Our Mission

What are we campaigning for?

For two decades, Germany and its Western partners in Afghanistan joined a military intervention and “nation-building” mission in Afghanistan. It came to a rash end in August 2021 and had far-reaching consequences for the Afghan civil society. Judges, security forces, teachers, human rights activists and many other Afghans had worked to build a free and constitutional Afghanistan. When Germany and its Western partners decided to irresponsibly and chaotically withdraw their troops from Afghanistan, the radical forces of the Taliban came back to power. Germany’s evacuations came to a rapid halt only two weeks later, and most of our Afghan allies were abandoned and left to the arbitrary power of the new rulers.

We cannot reverse the political decisions of the past. We can, however, become aware of our responsibility: The Taliban tighten their law and further restrict civil rights and liberties every day. It is Germany’s duty to support all Afghans at risk to escape Taliban violence and to support them on safe and legal pathways.

We are a civil initiative that took on this responsibility when state action fell short. Since August 2021, we have evacuated more than two thousand people with the help of your donations, and supported another thousand in their exit. And we go on evacuating, supporting and advocating for the admission of Afghans under threat. Since the Taliban came to power, the German government has still not managed to support all the people it has promised to take in. On top of that, tens of thousands of threatened Afghans who have since asked the German foreign ministry for support are waiting without an answer.

We have become a contact point in Germany for many Afghans at risk. With help of our partners on the ground we have been able to maintain regular transports, and establish safe evacuation routes. Additionally, we are campaigning for the admission of all people at risk and for the government to accept its responsibility. We still receive a large number of requests every day and will try to get back to every message that reaches us.

You, the community of our supporters, are the strongest allies for us. Our work would not be possible without your interest, your commitment and your frequent donations.

On the political level we keep advocating for a just treatment of our Afghan allies, and we tirelessly maintain public attention for Afghanistan. Help us to be loud and clear on all of our demands:

  • We want the federal admission program (Bundesaufnahmeprogramm) to realistically meet people’s needs. Thus, we demand an open registration platform for everyone at risk provided by the German government. Also we want Afghans residing in third and neighboring countries to be included in the program.
  • We demand the option for individual application on the basis of §22.2 German Residence Law to remain open for all Afghans under threat with an urgent need for resettlement.
  • We want fair and humane visa procedures for Afghans with a German admission approval, including visa interviews which follow international human rights standards.
  • We expect a warm welcome and support to all of our Afghan allies arriving in Germany and building a new life.
  • We demand the acknowledgment of Germany’s negligence in the troop withdrawal in 2021, as well as a just political representation of Afghan voices in public debate around the topic.

We can talk a lot about who we want to be. It is in our actions where we show who we really are.
