Subject: Arrests and deportations of Afghan nationals and request for immediate continuation of humanitarian admissions

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you regarding the arrests and deportations of Afghan nationals with admission promises for Germany in Pakistan and urgently request the immediate continuation of humanitarian admissions.

The situation in Afghanistan has been catastrophic since the Taliban took power: millions suffer from hunger, exploitation, and lack of education. Those who stood up for freedom and democracy live in constant danger; women and girls are systematically deprived of their rights.

The Federal Government has issued legally binding admission promises in various procedures. In reliance on these, those affected followed the request to travel to Pakistan for the visa process. The situation there is dramatic: people are forcibly taken from shelters, families are separated, and several have already been deported – despite admission promises and positive urgent rulings from the Berlin Administrative Court. In Afghanistan, they face violence, torture, and danger to their lives, as shown in a recent UN report [1]. A legal opinion states that the Federal Government could even be criminally liable if it fails to honor these promises [2].

I urgently ask you to:

  1. Work for the release and safe accommodation of arrested or deported persons to enable their entry into Germany.
  2. Immediately resume humanitarian admissions from Afghanistan and fulfill your legal obligation as well as your given promise.
  3. Ensure sufficient funding for the Federal Admission Program and further admissions of Afghan refugees, including care and security.

Stand by your responsibility.

Kind regards
